This is a project undertaken in co-operation with the Harvard and Smithsonian Center of Astrophysics Wolbach Library.
For the purpose of this project, we developed and prototyped an open metadata schema called MetaSat to link the data, software, and hardware of small satellite missions. The project was piloted using SatNOGS, Libre Space’s open-source network of satellite ground stations.
As part of the project, new SatNOGS ground stations were installed in five public libraries. These five libraries were the first participants in the Library Space Technology Network (LSTN) initiative aiming at bringing space exploration to the public. A series of educational materials and resources were developed to support the five public libraries with installing and running a SatNOGS ground station.
